Jerusalem Seminary is now entering into its third official semester of online courses while simultaneously inaugurating short-term courses in the Land! After rave reviews and\u00a0touching testimonies<\/b><\/a>\u00a0from the past two semesters, the fall \u201822 line up boasts new courses and old classics that are available for enrollment and can also be used to fulfill requirements in one of four new\u00a0certificate tracks<\/b><\/a>. When?<\/u> October 2022 – January 2023, weekly<\/b>, except for the Hebrew courses which are held twice weekly<\/b>.<\/p>

Format?<\/u> Hybrid<\/b>. Some courses meet weekly on zoom for live sessions (that are recorded and available for viewing afterwards) and some courses have pre-recorded lectures enhanced with at least three live sessions with the instructor. The course \u201cIsrael Matters\u201d will include even more extra live Jerusalem sessions this year!

Time Commitment<\/u><\/span>: Depending on the course, about 3-4 hours a week for enrichment and 4-6 hours a week for credit. (Hebrew 6-9 hours a week). Most weekly pre-recorded lectures are two academic hours long and for those taking a course for credit, each week another two to four hours are required for readings, assignments and forum posts, and a brief weekly quiz.<\/span><\/p>

Discovering Jewish Life: Then and Now<\/b><\/a>\u00a0– (HYBRID, 3 credits) Early Bird Course Fee: $450\/$350, Starts Monday 24 October 2022. Course Description:<\/b> This course is foundational to understanding the Bible both in its ancient Israelite context and in considering how Jewish life relates to life and faith today. It engages broadly across traditional Jewish literature \u2013 from the Torah to the modern period, emphasizing how the Jewish classics have shaped Jewish life, traditions and customs down to the present day. We will trace the historical roots of various Jewish life practices from their origins in the Torah and their journey through the centuries and diverse periods of Jewish literature. Celebrating Biblical and Messianic Feasts in Early Christian Traditions<\/b><\/a>\u00a0– (LIVE, 3 credits) Starts Tues October 18th 2022, Early Bird Course Fee: $450\/$350. Course Description:<\/b> This course will investigate the development of the Christian feast calendar celebrating God\u2019s history with mankind. In view of the progressing Biblical and Messianic feasts in the early Church period the course will explore the relations between Rabbinic, proto-Christian and orthodox Christian traditions in the first centuries after the destruction of the Second Temple. The course will investigate the claim that Jewish traditions of Biblical feasts often are preserved in Eastern Orthodox Church traditions. Middle Eastern Churches took leading roles in the development of Biblical feasts celebrated in the early Church, like Pascha and Pentecost, and extra Biblical feasts, like Good Friday, Epiphany and Christmas. The course will look into Western Protestant celebrations of Biblical and Messianic feasts and their relations with those rich traditions. Instructor:<\/b> Dr. Petra Heldt. Course description:<\/b> Since the Holocaust, Christian theologians have come to realize that the Church made some serious mistakes in their understanding of Jesus and Israel\u2014that Jesus and the apostles were far more Jewish than most had realized, and that Israel as a people and land have continuing significance for God\u2019s work of redemptionThis course will be a study in biblical, historical, and systematic theology. But it is far more than academic. For those with ears to hear, it will help create and enlarge mountain-moving mustard seeds. The course will explore the following questions. In the Bible, what was Israel\u2019s role in Torah and the prophets? Where is Israel in the New Testament and early Christianity? Does the New Testament see a future for the Jews, even those who have not seen Yeshua as messiah? Did the NT authors see a role for the land of Israel in their day and the future? How did the Church understand these things in its last 2000 years\u2014in its first three centuries, under Constantine, in the Middle Ages, the Reformation, and eighteenth through twentieth centuries? What significance does all of this have for Christian theology\u2014its understanding of humanity and God, the history of redemption, prophecy, the Church, and the problem of evil?
